What is Ashtanga Yoga?

In Sanskrit, Ashtanga (also spelled Astanga) means “eight limbs”.  Ashtanga refers to the 8 limbs of yoga laid out in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.  The Ashtanga method focus on daily practice of Vinyasa flow. This approach stresses ujjayi breathing, mula bandha, uddiyana bandha, and drishti.  Derived from an ancient text called the Yoga Korunta, the Ashtanga method of asana practice was interpreted by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and Krishnamacharya.
