Every Sound Counts

Music is VERY Powerful!

We live in an ocean of sound and frequencies. From the sound of your mother’s voice, a bird’s song, or the turning over of the engine in your car, every sound counts. These vibrations give meaning to your world.  Everything has a vibrational signature including the moment that registered as you when you were born. Sound frequencies express themselves in every aspect of your life.  When you know this, the realization of the importance of acknowledging your inner sound, your expressions and relationship with your environment expands.

Music is associated with the emotional body, and helps to build harmonic structures for healing. This can be seen in the work of sound therapists, Qi Gong Medical practitioners and in the work of Resonance Repatterning®. When unresolved emotions or traumatic experiences are stored in the body, they get stored as frequencies.  Sound, melody and intervals (space between two notes) serve as energetic tools to enliven, break up, and restore greater harmony and balance to the body-mind field.

Here’s How: According to Fabien Maman, author of The Role of Music in the 21st Century, musical tones create physiological effects at different levels.

  1. Specific musical notes are linked to specific acupuncture points, and stimulate or tonify life energy flow.
  2. Melodies create response at the molecular level.
  3. Harmony works with the ganglia (nerve clusters and sympathetic nervous system including the heart, glands and involuntary muscles) and endocrine system (system necessary for normal growth and development, reproduction and homeostasis).
  4. Resonating vibrational frequencies created by harmonic overtones are linked with your nervous system, chakras, and subtle energy bodies.
  5. We’ve all had the experiene of listening to music to change our moods. Music can help you feel energized or calm down. The work of Don Campbell who published The Mozart Effect has been used in hospitals, schools to help create greater harmony and healing.  Accelerated Learning for new language acquisition has been employed with the use of Baroque Music through the Lozanov Technique successfully for learning. Music with the frequencies of the Earth underneath have been used to calm people with anxiety or attention deficit disorder through the work of  Heartmath Institute. Music moves us and  generates change at the emotional, mental and physical levels.

In a world of increased mechanical sound and electric music, we have been impacted by a depletion of natural and tonal diversity.  Jill Purce, a sound therapist, acknowledges the vital importance of making your own sound to serve the need for connection to self-healing and the Earth. She cites that our separation from care of the Earth as humanity is directly related to our separation from making natural sound.  Not only is it important to make sounds which vibrate through the bones and systems of our own bodies, it is important to hear them. When we stop listening to the natural sounds found in the forests and jungles, we sacrifice part of our sound ecosystem, and lose part of our connection to that which nourishes us all.  Jonathon Goldman speaks to the fact that each and every tone in these systems are  integral to the health of the bigger picture.

Your own voice can actually help you feel more grounded, process emotions, and feel supported.

For thousands of years, song has served as a way to express emotion as a connection to one another through storytelling, to the Earth, the Heavens to the greater All That Is.  There is good reason for this. Your voice creates vibration. Your ears energize your brain. Bringing song back into your life can serve as an empowering natural healing tool. Working with the natural vibrational qualities of your own voice and acoustic instruments creates a fuller spectrum of harmonics to impact change in your life.  In fact, according to Sherry Edwards, a sound frequency researcher, the human voice can serve to identify issues on the emotional, mental and physical levels.  Missing tonal frequencies can identify  and measure dis-stress, dis-ease and wellness. In Resonance Repatterning sessions, tones are checked  for resonance regarding frequency material in your body-mind system. Shifting frequencies literally changes radio channels at the energetic level of life for healing.

In a universe of vibration, every sound counts!

Want to Get Healthy? Lay off the Sodas!

Feeling really thirsty?

I remember in college one of my buddies told me that he had quit drinking sodas back in high school. At that time, knowing virtually nothing about nutrition or health, I thought “Big deal – whats wrong with sodas?

For years, advocates of natural health have been hammering away at the message that soda causes diabetes and obesity along with a plethora of other health problems. Recent research presented at the American Heart Association’s Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention annual conference in San Francisco reveals that since the year 2000, soda consumption has conservatively caused over 130,000 new cases of diabetes!

One of the main concerns with soda is the fact that it has a very low pH, typically around 2.0, thus it is 100,000 (105) times more acidic than water with a pH of around 7.0.  People that consume huge amounts of sodas (as well as coffee and alcohol) are typically very acidic and are “cancer magnets.”  One can of soda pop also reduces the immune response by 50% for a period of six hours!

And if that’s not enough, one can of soda has almost thirteen teaspoons of sugar, most of which is fructose from high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). Despite the fact that the corn industry wants you to believe that HFCS is “natural,” the truth is that HFCS doesn’t actually exist anywhere in nature. It is a manufactured product created by using enzymes to increase the fructose content of corn syrup to about 90%.

This super HFCS is then blended “down” with a 100% glucose corn syrup to be added to our foods and drinks. When HFCS is ingested, it travels straight to the liver which turns the sugary liquid into fat. According to the USDA, HFCS also depletes the body of chromium, which is important in helping glucose pass from the bloodstream into the cells. This depletion of chromium in combination with an overworked pancreas frequently results in diabetes.

Due to the extremely high acidity of the HFCS combined with the phosphoric acid used in sodas, people who drink sodas often lose bone minerals and end up being diagnosed with osteoporosis, since their bodies seek out the minerals in their bones to be used as “buffers” in their blood. In other words, to prevent the soda from killing them, their bodies must buffer the acid, so they forfeit their bone minerals in order to stay alive!

In 1951, Dr. Clive McCay (a Navy nutritionist at the Naval Medical Research Institute) found that human teeth softened and started to dissolve in a short period of time after sitting in a cup of Coca Cola. He stated the acidity of cola beverages is about the same as vinegar, only it is masked by the sugar content. Maybe this is why sodas are also referred to as “soft drinks” – because they soften your teeth and bones!! And if you think diet sodas are better, think again. Diet sodas typically have a lower pH than normal soda, and they also contain harmful artificial sweeteners like aspartame, or should I say “AminoSweet”?

If you want to be healthy, you MUST give up sodas. Giving up sodas and drinking more pure water is probably the easiest way to prevent disease, yet it’s something that most people neglect. Our bodies are over 70% water and without sufficient water, we slowly die.

If you are thirsty, it means your cells are already dehydrated. A dry mouth should be regarded as the last outward sign of dehydration. That’s because thirst does not develop until body fluids are depleted well bellow levels required for optimal functioning.

Some statistics show that as much as 90% of us are walking around in a chronic state of dehydration. One way to tell if you’re dehydrated is to check the color of the urine. If it’s dark all the time, you’re probably dehydrated.

As a general guideline, you need 1/2 ounce of water per pound per day. For example, a 200 pound person needs 100 ounces per day. Or, if you are tiny like my little girl Tabitha (pictured here drinking a cool glass of water), then you probably only need about 15 to 20 ounces per day.

The Dark Side of Birth Control

Brith Control Pills - Holistic Health

Birth Control Dangers

The Pill Still Has Many Adverse Affects Glossed Over By Big Pharma

As we near the 50th anniversary of the pill, we need to appreciate this remarkable innovation while also being honest about its limitations.

As we get ready, in 2010, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of hormonal contraception in the United States, women have every right to stand up and cheer for a birth control option that has revolutionized how effective a contraceptive can be. “The Pill” and its descendants have indeed provided women with a unique tool that has changed the terms in which women control their social and professional choices.Amidst all the applause, though, let us not oversimplify the history of a drug that has often coupled danger with opportunity, and indeed reinforced some serious inequities even as it promised to enhance women’s rights.  Today, 50 years later, ovulation suppression through hormonal drugs still harbors many adverse effects, which range from mood swings and diminished libido, to fatalities from blood clots. The innovation itself emerged at the cost of experimentation on poor women, and came, in part, out of a desire to control the fertility of poor populations.

The pill was able to be born because of deep social and economic injustices, not solely as a response to them.  The pill trials were conducted on poor women in Puerto Rico, in part because they had fewer legal protections against some of the dangers of new drug trials.  Male doctors scoffed when female doctor Edris Rice-Wray suggested that the side effects of the new pill might be too numerous to be generally tolerable and carried on with hardly a pause when more than one woman in the trial died mysteriously.  It turned out that Rice-Wray was right about the risks of the pill but wrong about women’s willingness to endure them.

It might be easy to see the approval acceptance of hormonal contraception as a pure female victory, and indeed it happened in part because women deeply hungered for reliable birth control.  It is also true that it was moved forward not only to satisfy this need, but because of deep anxieties among the powerful that a booming population in the developing world would lead to the spread of communism, and that a similar growth in poor (and non-white) populations within the United States would cause domestic instability.  Even as the pill offered the promise of liberation to affluent women it provided a powerful and easily abused tool for controlling the fertility of poor and disempowered women.  Margaret Sanger realized this, and readily voiced deeply racist and classist sentiments in service of her otherwise valiant agenda. Feeling Bloated?

Filled with gas?

If you’re like me, you’ve suffered from stomach bloating, excess wind and flatulence for as long as you can remember. The symptoms are unpleasant: you feel sluggish, uncomfortable and unattractive, and it happens seemingly at random. One minute you feel great, the next minute you feel completely full of wind, with your stomach bloated to two or three times its normal size.

There are many plausible causes for it and any number of recommended bloating remedies too.

What if told you about one such remedy? A natural essential oil, totally harmless, with no side-effects. What if I said that this remedy has been used medicinally for centuries across the world and is readily and cheaply available?

What if I also said that this bloating remedy would likely wave goodbye to your flatulence, markedly ease your uncomfortable bloating, without any of the side-effects associated with antacids (such as acid reflux or increased risk of kidney stones)?

This wonder remedy is peppermint oil.

How To Improve Your Concentration and Focus

Can't Focus or Concentrate?

Last week, one of my Facebook Fans asked me the following question:

“Hey Michael, if I was having challenges with focus and concentration what would you holistically recommend? I think 25% is distration aka a full plate, otherwise I think 75% of it is genetics :) !”

Below is my response which I hope may be helpful to others.

Poor focus and concentration can be a result of a variety of problems and conditions such as:

Lack of sleep (insomnia), ADD, yeast infection, nutritional deficiencies, etc. Some women find that they have a particularly hard time paying attention in the last months of pregnancy or during menopause, when insomnia is a common problem. Sometimes it’s as simple as mere lack of geniune interest in the subject at hand.

When your attention takes a detour, the culprit may be one type of distraction or another–worry, stress, hunger–or the cat scratching at the screen door.

HOW TO IMPROVE FOCUS

Here are some professional tips and recommendations that may be helpful to you and anyone with focus and concentration problems. Read more »

Hospitals Kill 48,000 People

New study shows sepsis and pneumonia caused by hospital-acquired infections kill 48,000 patients

Cost $8.1 billion to treat

Washington D.C. – Two common conditions caused by hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) killed 48,000 people and ramped up health care costs by $8.1 billion in 2006 alone, according to a study released today in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

This is the largest nationally representative study to date of the toll taken by sepsis and pneumonia, two conditions often caused by deadly microbes, including the antibiotic-resistant bacteria MRSA. Such infections can lead to longer hospital stays, serious complications and even death.

“In many cases, these conditions could have been avoided with better infection control in hospitals,” said Ramanan Laxminarayan, Ph.D., principal investigator for Extending the Cure, a project examining antibiotic resistance based at the Washington, D.C. think-tank Resources for the Future.

“Infections that are acquired during the course of a hospital stay cost the United States a staggering amount in terms of lives lost and health care costs,” he said. “Hospitals and other health care providers must act now to protect patients from this growing menace.”

Laxminarayan and his colleagues analyzed 69 million discharge records from hospitals in 40 states and identified two conditions caused by health care-associated infections: sepsis, a potentially lethal systemic response to infection and pneumonia, an infection of the lungs and respiratory tract. Experts: Sitting too much could be deadly

Couch Potato = Dead Man

Here’s a new warning from health experts: Sitting is deadly. Scientists are increasingly warning that sitting for prolonged periods _ even if you also exercise regularly _ could be bad for your health. And it doesn’t matter where the sitting takes place _ at the office, at school, in the car or before a computer or TV _ just the overall number of hours it occurs.

Research is preliminary, but several studies suggest people who spend most of their days sitting are more likely to be fat, have a heart attack or even die.

In an editorial published this week in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, Elin Ekblom-Bak of the Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences suggested that authorities rethink how they define physical activity to highlight the dangers of sitting.

While health officials have issued guidelines recommending minimum amounts of physical activity, they haven’t suggested people try to limit how much time they spend in a seated position.

“After four hours of sitting, the body starts to send harmful signals,” Ekblom-Bak said. She explained that genes regulating the amount of glucose and fat in the body start to shut down.

Even for people who exercise, spending long stretches of time sitting at a desk is still harmful. Tim Armstrong, a physical activity expert at the World Health Organization, said people who exercise every day _ but still spend a lot of time sitting _ might get more benefit if that exercise were spread across the day, rather than in a single bout.

That wasn’t welcome news for Aytekin Can, 31, who works at a London financial company, and spends most of his days sitting in front of a computer. Several evenings a week, Can also teaches jiu jitsu, a Japanese martial art involving wrestling, and also does Thai boxing.

“I’m sure there are some detrimental effects of staying still for too long, but I hope that being active when I can helps,” he said. “I wouldn’t want to think the sitting could be that dangerous.”

FDA Permits Deadly Drug in Livestock

:Original raster version: :Image:Food and Drug...

Do you trust the FDA?

Why Has the FDA Allowed a Drug Marked ‘Not Safe for Use in Humans’ to Be Fed to Livestock Right Before Slaughter?

There’s a good chance you may be eating a livestock drug banned in 160 nations.|

While researchers and scientists investigate the cause of our diabetes, obesity, asthma and ADHD epidemics, they should ask why the FDA approved a livestock drug banned in 160 nations and responsible for hyperactivity, muscle breakdown and 10 percent mortality in pigs, according to angry farmers who phoned the manufacturer.

The beta agonist ractopamine, a repartitioning agent that increases protein synthesis, was recruited for livestock use when researchers found the drug, used in asthma, made mice more muscular says Beef magazine.

But unlike the growth promoting antibiotics and hormones used in livestock which are withdrawn as the animal nears slaughter, ractopamine is started as the animal nears slaughter.

As much as twenty percent of Paylean, given to pigs for their last 28 days, Optaflexx, given to cattle their last 28 to 42 days and Tomax, given to turkeys their last 7 to 14 days, remains in consumer meat says author and well known veterinarian Michael W. Fox.

Though banned in Europe, Taiwan and China–more than 1,700 people were “poisoned” from eating Paylean-fed pigs since 1998 says the Sichuan Pork Trade Chamber of Commerce– ractopamine is used in 45 percent of US pigs and 30 percent of ration-fed cattle says Elanco Animal Health which manufactures all three products. DRINKING WATER CAN GIVE YOU CANCER!!!

Close-up of tap water

Stop drinking tap water!!!

Thousands of American municipalities add chlorine to their drinking water to get rid of contaminants like nitrates, arsenic and pesticides. But this inexpensive and highly effective disinfectant has a dark side. “Chlorine, added as an inexpensive and effective drinking water disinfectant, is also a known poison to the body,” says Vanessa Lausch of filter manufacturer Aquasana. “It is certainly no coincidence that chlorine gas was used with deadly effectiveness as a weapon in the First World War.” The gas would severely burn the lungs and other body tissues when inhaled, and is no less powerful when ingested by mouth.

Lausch adds that researchers have now linked chlorine in drinking water to higher incidences of bladder, rectal and breast cancers. Reportedly chlorine, once in water, interacts with organic compounds to create trihalomethanes (THMs)—which when ingested encourage the growth of free radicals that can destroy or damage vital cells in the body. “Because so much of the water we drink ends up in the bladder and/or rectum, ingestions of THMs in drinking water are particularly damaging to these organs,” says Lausch.

The link between chlorine and bladder and rectal cancers has long been known, but only recently have researchers found a link between common chlorine disinfectant and breast cancer, which affects one out of every eight American women. A recent study conducted in Hartford, Connecticut found that women with breast cancer have 50-60 percent higher levels of organochlorines (chlorine by-products) in their breast tissue than cancer-free women. 50 Cool Tips & Tricks You Should Know About Essential Oils (Pt.4)

Essential Oils Tips & Tricks

Essential Oils are very powerful components of plants – if not used properly, essential oils can be harmful if improperly used.

Having said that, essential oils offer helpful benefits in some situations, they play a supportive role in others, and sometimes may have little, if any in others.

I would caution against the notion that essential oils alone have the ability to cure or treat serious health conditions. In such matter it is always recommended that you consult with a duly licensed and competent health care professional.

In any case, I do strongly believe that essential oils should be an “essential” part of any effort to pursue a holistic wellness lifestyle.

Listen to this podcast and you’ll hear part 4 in this 5 part series showing you how you can use essential oils in a practical way in your every day life.
