An essential oil is a concentrated, hydrophobic liquid containing volatile aroma compounds from plants. Essential oils are also known as ethereal or volatile oils, or simply as the “oil of” the plant from which they were extracted, such as oil of oregano.
An oil is “essential” in the sense that it harbors a distinctive aroma, or essence, from a particular plant. Essential oils do not as a group need to consist of any specific chemical properties in common, other than conveying characteristic fragrances.
Essential oils should be an “essential” part of any effort to pursue a holistic wellness lifestyle.
Listen to this podcast and you’ll hear part 3 in this 5 part series showing you how you can use essential oils in a practical way in your every day life.
